PROCESS
The estimated duration of completing this WebQuest is a total of 11 consecutive lessons spaced and planned accordingly throughout the term. Students will be assigned by the teacher into partners when completing the “glogster”; however some activities are to be done individually where stated. Students are to work through activities in order, continually using various web programs and uploading their final results to their “glogster” webpage. Students are expected to collaborate and work well in partners.

If students have finished an activity before the lesson is complete then they are allowed to edit and decorate their webpage.

Lesson 1: Classroom and Computer Lab
- Introduce the topic of “Gold!” to students by brainstorming materials made out of it. Engage students in the Gold Rush of Australia by asking what they know of it and what they would like to know of it.
- Provide students with the URL for the WebQuest and review as a class the Introduction and Task page.
- Direct students to the “Declaration of Students” and “Checklist” documents located on the task page. Review as a class both documents so students are aware of what is expected of them in each lesson.
- Assign students their partners based on ability. Have students sign the “Declaration of Students” document.
- Allow students time to read the Task page again.
- Students begin completing Activity 1 and must have it finished by the end of the lesson.
Lesson 2: Computer Lab
- Students, in pairs, are to research and plan for Activity 2 whereby they are to create a timeline.
- Teacher reinforces the idea of planning and sequencing events chronologically.
Lesson 3: Computer Lab
- Students, in pairs, are to re-create their timeline virtually using the web program provided.
- Students, in pairs, are to show teacher their completed timeline and then upload it to their “glogster” page.
Lesson 4: Computer Lab
- Students individually are to research and plan a comment to either statement provided.
- Students individually are to create a draft comment of 190 words and show the teacher who will fix any errors and add reviews.
Lesson 5: Computer Lab and Classroom
- Individually, students are to re-write their comment.
- Individually, students are to upload their comment to their “glogster” webpage.
- Individually, students are to upload their comment to “wallwisher” page.
- Teacher and students as a class compare and contrast various answers and synthesis responses.
Lesson 6: Computer Lab
- Students, in pairs, are to research and plan a profile page for Edward Hammond Hargraves.
Lesson 7: Computer Lab
- Students, in pairs, are to create the profile page using the web program provided.
- Students are to upload the page to their “glogster”.
Lesson 8: Classroom
- Teacher and students undertake shared writing task by creating a literary recount on “Miners in the Goldfields”.
- Teacher goes through parts of the literary recount that must be included, highlighting language features and paragraph usage.
Lesson 9: Computer Lab
- Individually, students are to choose a topic as part of the activity and research it.
Lesson 10: Computer Lab
- Individually, students are to create a draft copy of the literary recount using the template provided.
- Individually, students are to present this to the teacher for marking and reviewing.
Lesson 11: Computer Lab
- Individually, students are to synthesis teacher comments.
- Individually, students are to type their new literary recount to the web program provided, making it a public page.
- Students are to link this page to their “glogster”.
- Any incomplete activities are to be completed and the “glogster” is to be published and emailed to teacher.
Lesson 12: Computer Lab
- Students are to complete the final activity located in the "Conclusion" page.
- If students have not completed other activities then this lesson will be required to do so.
- Students that have completed all activities will be allowed time to decorate their “glogster” or play the interactive game found on the WebQuest.
